Trash Humpers may be remembered as one of the most unsettling movies ever made because it so flawlessly evokes the home videos of a mad man, which is exactly what Korine was going for, I’m sure. I love all of his movies in that sort of “Holy shit are you fucking serious?” way, and I really admire what he does, but I don’t know that I can read very deep into any of his films.
#What makes the movie spring breakers good movie#
When I first heard Harmony Korine was making a movie with former (possibly still current) Disney girls Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, I was immediately excited even though I don’t really “get” Korine’s work. He has written and directed the movies Gummo, Julien Donkey Boy, and most recently an experimental opus entitled Trash Humpers, which Korine was inspired to make after seeing beautifully lit piles of garbage that “looked very humpable” and remembering stories of “neighborhood boogeymen” of his youth who, according to Korine, “worked at Krispy Kreme and would wrap themselves in shrubbery, cover themselves with dirt, and peep through the windows of other neighbors.” So this guy’s pretty nutty. Korine is probably best known for writing Larry Clarke’s Kids, the 1995 AIDS horror story that Korine based mostly in a reality he had (or was) living. But keep on reading! If you’re unfamiliar with Korine’s work, it’s probably because you’re a regularly adjusted human being who feels no need to seek out disturbing art movies.

Has Harmony Korine sold his soul to Hollywood? No, not really.
